Prevention of Falls

Course Overview:
This course
course equips health and social care staff with the knowledge and practical skills to reduce the risk of falls among vulnerable individuals, particularly older adults or those with mobility, sensory, or cognitive impairments. Falls can lead to serious injury, loss of independence, and increased care needs. This course promotes a proactive, person-centred approach to fall prevention, in line with NICE guidelines and CQC expectations for safe care.

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the causes and consequences of falls in care settings

  • Identify key risk factors that contribute to falls

  • Complete basic fall risk assessments and put preventative measures in place

  • Promote mobility, strength, and independence to reduce fall risk

  • Recognise how medication, environment, and health conditions affect fall risk

  • Respond effectively when a fall occurs, including reporting and post-fall protocols

  • Work collaboratively to support individuals at risk of falling
