Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)

Course Overview:
This course
designed to equip staff working in health, social care, and education settings with the tools and strategies to understand, prevent, and respond to behaviours that challenge in a person-centred, ethical, and proactive way. Grounded in evidence-based practices, PBS focuses on improving quality of life, promoting positive behaviours, and reducing restrictive practices. This course is ideal for those supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism, mental health needs, or complex behavioural profiles.

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand what Positive Behaviour Support is and its core principles

  • Identify the reasons behind behaviours that challenge (functional analysis)

  • Recognise early signs and triggers of challenging behaviour

  • Apply proactive and preventative strategies to reduce behaviours of concern

  • Support individuals using person-centred approaches and behaviour support plans

  • Understand the importance of consistency, communication, and recording

  • Reflect on their own role and attitude in supporting behaviour
