People Moving and Handling

Course Overview:
This course is a vital part of health and social care training, designed to equip staff with the skills and knowledge required to move and handle individuals safely and in a way that maintains dignity and reduces the risk of injury and ensures compliance with the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 and Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, helping to protect both staff and service users in a range of care environments.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the legal responsibilities around manual handling

  • Identify the risks associated with moving and handling people

  • Use safe moving and handling techniques to reduce injury risk

  • Demonstrate correct use of equipment such as slide sheets, hoists, and transfer aids

  • Promote dignity, independence, and communication when supporting movement

  • Apply person-centred approaches to mobility support
