Course Overview:
This course is for staff who may be involved in the manual handling of objects, particularly in education, hospitality, warehousing, and cleaning sectors. To provide learners with the knowledge and practical skills to safely undertake manual handling tasks in line with UK legislation, reducing the risk of injury to themselves and others. Identify legal responsibilities under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (MHOR)
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Introduction to manual handling and workplace injuries
The cost of poor manual handling (human and financial)
Legal framework: Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, MHOR 1992
Anatomy and mechanics of the spine
Understanding risk assessments
Preparing for a safe lift: posture, positioning and movement
Practical techniques and safe systems of work
Use of manual handling aids and equipment
Employer and employee responsibilities
Avoiding hazardous manual handling tasks
